The apparition that floated a mere short distance away from you was not the one you'd seen over a year ago. Not the lazy princess who would idle her endless days away in her palace with that same placid smile and distant look in her eyes, spouting out random and meaningless thoughts and philosophies as she ate sweet snacks and stared out into her half-bloomed cherry garden. No, this was a different Yuyuko entirely. She was pale, her eyes were heavy but sharper than ever, glowing with the same malevolent red as her gardener's had, and she glared at you and cursed your insolence. Her mouth had fixated into a hardened grimace, and she gritted her teeth as she spoke. That cheery, careless girl had been washed away in the tides of the end of the world, and what was left was who she truly was; and it was frightening. "Reimu's dead, you idiot! Gensokyo was all a dream - it was all HER dream!! We were all imaginary actors in her little play, and now it's over, and the curtain is falling. Don't you see? Our part is over, our job is done. There's no reason for us to exist!" She nearly screams at you, and you fight to hold back tears. You don't believe her, you refuse to believe a word she says to you. "There's nothing left Marisa." She sighs, and surrenders. "It's not like I want to go either. But that's just how it is, and you're just going to have to accept it. Even if I wanted to do something, what could I, a mere illusionary actor in a dream, do to the person seeing the dream? It's hopeless." Her head drops, and her eyes fall to the floor. You look at her sternly, "Well then, take me to her. I want to talk to her one last time, in person. It's what I have left to do." Your words make her look back to you, but she doesn't move her head an inch. "... and what I have left to do..." Her head quickly snaps back up and her eyes suddenly burn intensely in a fit of madness and insanity, ".. is to kill you!" You instinctively pull your hakkero and remaining spell cards from your pocket, and prepare yourself as the phantom girl grins wildly and screams; her famous deathly butterflies engulf you in light. |
