Yeah, it's been quite a while since I uploaded a track with some acoustic love, and for that, I apologize, after all, they are one of the "essences" of this playlist. Ancient Temple is easily one of my top 10s, and my fav Youmu theme, it's not surprising really, listen to the original, it clearly categorizes as one of ZUN's top 10 peaceful songs (I don't believe I've actually said which are the top 10 ZUN peaceful songs, well, here's our first one) which all require a place on this playlist, since it's one of Merlin's objectives. The original is a very "japanesque" tune, with those flutes (which ZUN defines as "Shinto flutes"), and other oriental instruments, along with the nice sound of those bells. And not to mention how nice the intro is, a slightly "acoustic-techno" like thing. Cant's forget how much I love silver/white haired gals, although strangely Youmu doesn't turn me on that much... I still love her though, not an ardent fan though. Which brings me back to this track, the unique objection I might raise is the fact that Mose totally left out the intro, which IMHO is an extremely nice touch to the song. I repeat though, that the intro is just a nice "touch" to the song, sincerely speaking I love this arrange, even though he skipped the intro, it's still wonderfully arranged. "This theme expresses the nostalgia that is deep within every Japanese and the frantic feeling that arises when someone is approaching. The sounds of Shinto flutes and bells coming from a distance conjure up images of the netherworld. Or maybe it's just me?" -ZUN, translated by TOHO wiki Supposedly in the story of ZUN's Music CD Ghostly Field Club (where ZUN rearranged this theme, giving it a more complete and nice feeling overall) this is the theme that plays when Renko and Maribel are about to enter the Netherworld: "What is this entrance at the ghostly field, Renko?" It was the only thing I could say. I had never heard there was an entrance at the ghostly field, and she told it to me all of a sudden. "Well, just look." Renko handed me a photo. It showed an ancient temple like I've never seen before. "This is the Netherworld." That's why I decided on a monochrome image, I think it's kinda... ghastly?
