Twilight Frontier and Team Shanghai Alice has brought yet another fighting game to the table, namely Touhou 13.5 ~ Hopeless Masquerade, which sports differently from the prior fighting games in terms of graphic, gameplay mechanics (there are some similarity though), and of course, sweet new arrangements. Joining the fighting cast in this trial release is Kumoi Ichirin, one of the cast of Seirensen, along with her nyuudou protector, Unzan. Personally, I was quite surprised and rather happy to see that she made the fighting cast. I mean, dishing out punches from a huge pink cloud is rather cool. Aside from that, I really do like her costume design as well.

In regards to the game mechanics (based on what I found out via gameplay):
You have the usual physical and danmaku attacks from the prior fighting games:
~ Z - Light Physical Attack. Pressing it repeatedly will perform a normal physical combo similarly to Hisoutensoku.
~ X - Heavy Physical Attack.
~ A - Danmaku Type 1
~ S - Danmaku Type 2
~ C - Special (activates based on directional input. e.g: D + Right activates whatever skill card that you have equipped)
~ D - Special 2 + Activates your spellcard. Spellcard activation is dependent on the spellcards you have equipped in your deck. The nature of the spellcard system is similar to IaMP's spellcard system, however you can only cast it when your health bar is fully blue.

Similarly to Hisoutensoku, you have decks as well, where you can equip skill and spell cards, which can be activated via C and D button + directional input.

One of the main feature for this game is the audience appeal system. Unfortunately, I'm still unsure about it myself... orz
Declaring a spellcard, landing the first hit and pulling out combo's seem to increase your appeal meter, whereas passive play, and bombing(?) decreases your appeal meter. When the timer runs out, the maiden with the most appeal rate will be declared the winner regardless of your remaining health.

That's about all I could gather from my playthrough.

Somehow, I seem to prefer this over the prior fighters. The fighting style and mechanics seemed more Touhou-ish to me. Though however, the overall flight mechanism feels rather awkward to me (at least, it feels similar to Toho Sky Arena for me) =w=;;
In any case, I look forward to the full release ~!
