Look, look!" And almost instantly, a small fairy materialised in the oni's small hands, and, after looking confused, flew off without a word. You're taken aback in surprise. "Woah, since when could you do that?" you ask in bewilderment. "Iunno, I just sorta do it." the small girl slurred, "I mean, Gensokyo was pretty boring with everyone gone, so I just made some fairies and stuff to fill up the space." You suddenly remember that, despite it looking and feeling exactly the same, this isn't the Gensokyo you knew. Everyone who did live here, everyone you knew and interacted and talked with and bonded with was gone. Scattered. Lost. No-one was here except you, and the little oni girl who'd managed to cling to her existence and rescue the dream. Except, it wasn't a dream anymore. "Say, Suika, how'd you even do this? Like, you've basically just recreated the whole of Gensokyo! And, if you can create fairies just like that, why haven't you brought back our friends?" You sound almost accusatory, and your tone is blotted with a hint of desperation. You try to hide it, but she's already noticed. The oni don't like liars. "Hey, come on now, it ain't my fault! Besides, I'm only here by luck. A fragment of me was still stuck to the old Gensokyo, so I used my powers of gathering to bring the rest of myself and Gensokyo back together. I didn't plan this, I was just lucky. I can't bring everyone else back because I don't know where they are. I mean, they're almost definitely still alive, but just somewhere else. I could always recreate them, but they wouldn't be the same person, y'know? I can't recreate their personalities or anything, so it'd just be like having a figurine of them wanderin' around. Which is kinda creepy." She mock shudders and pulls a face, and her usual self begins to shine through. "But, I'm pretty tired of all o' this. Playin' God's not my thing, y'know? You should bring a specialist next time you visit, if you see what I'm sayin'. You should come back with her." She sounds vague, but you know exactly who she means. "Yeah, 'course I will." "Sooo... before ya go, how about another round of danmaku? For old times' sake?" The oni smiles and pretends to close one eye lazily, "Unless you're chicken?" "Pfft, as if. I'll only play if you don't hold back." "You're on." |
