Description[Title] - Shoot the Lights
[Author/Circle] - ELEMENTAS, Vocal: Shihori / A-One
[Album] - PLUG IN PLUG OUT
[Event/Date] - Reitasai 7 (Mar 14, 2010)
[Original] - Retrospective Kyoto ~ Photo Theme 4
[Game] - Touhou 09.5: Shoot the Bullet

When I whizzled by Plug In Plug Out's tracklist and saw our predilect Eurobeat crew was churning a Retrospective Kyoto arrange, I nearly flipped on the spot. This theme is more than just another one of Aya's pseudo themes (which are increasingly many). For starters, I often link Retrospective Kyoto with the Blue Sea original CD, and even though the former is the original to that one, I think it is much a more fitting presence inside the original CD rather than StB itself.

To add to my swellful discovery, they seemed to be making it Eurobeat-ish, which I'll let you know I'm also a big fan of. Perhaps not the Eurobeat as portrayed in Touhou though; there is a far too clumsy production scale on this genre yet to be called a favorite of sorts, unlike jazz, for instance, which even though outnumbered and shadowed by electronic and metal, it is worth a lot of commending.
Either ways, these guys have blended a great genre with an awesome series, and that is the initiative I applaud.

Unfortunately though, not only this release has only one textbook eurobeat track, which is alas, the one I am presenting to you, but it is as easily verifiable, a very mellow one at that.
I was curious to see how Retrospective would work in a jumpy environment but I guess I can't quench that curiosity of mine just yet. Instead, we get to be taken in a journey through Shihori's somewhat funny engrish that is so glaringly obvious in this type of rendition. Meh. I'm not gonna lie. Yeah, can't make that lie today. Well, the lie, that, I can do. The question is, will I make it? No, most certainly not. It is a disappointment for a A-One release and most definitely, a weak addition to the Eurobeat genre.

Even so, this is a rather enjoyable tune in its own right, and truly, Retrospective Kyoto is always swell and joyous, and that is my consolation in this average release.
