The Demo for Touhou 13 ~ Ten Desires was released recently on ZUN's blog. With that said, it's time for the protagonists of Gensokyo to embark on another incident-solving journey once more. The story is as followed :

Out of nowhere, a bunch of divine spirits suddenly sprang out. Reimu and Marisa set out to investigate, while Sanae seeks to use the godly spirits to her advantage, and Youmu intends to exterminate all the spirits that aren't under her right.

Personally, I'm liking what the game has offered so far. ZUN certainly wasn't kidding when he said he was making the game easier to make it suitable for newcomers. Then again, it's only a Trial. I'll pass my judgement regarding it on the full product instead.

Regarding the spirit mechanism, I have no complains about it, except for one (shall explain that soon).

Slight explanation regarding said mechanism:
The divine spirits mechanism are (somewhat) similar to that of UFO (only exception is they don't float around, but rather, stayed in their perspective places whilst gradually disappearing). Collecting them will refill your 'Trance' meter, which grants the character invulnerability and maximum power shots upon activation. Trance Mode can be activated manually, via the C Button (though you can only activate it when the entire meter is filled), or automatically, which occurs when you get hit by a bullet (which results to death soon after, though that is not the case when activated manually).

Basically, there are four types of spirits :
Blue Spirits - Points, basically, to increase your score
Grey Spirits - Increases your Trance gauge
Purple Spirits - Grants you a life piece
Green Spirits - Grants you a Bomb piece

Also to say, upon activation of Trance Mode, the appearance of Divine Spirits will change and gives you bonus depending on the type of spirits collected. Blue Points effectiveness are 10x, whereas Purple and Green Spirits are 2x.

In regards to the music, they are simply divine and enjoyable as ever. The music's atmosphere are mellow, which is rather fitting considering the backdrop of the game. I certainly do fancy the Title Theme (Spirit of Avarice) and the Stage 1 Theme (Night Sakura of Dead Spirits) the most, particularly the latter (Perhaps its the piano?).

Also to say, the character shot types are combined as one. Such as the case of Reimu, whereupon her homing shots and persuasion needle are unfocused and focused respectively. It's a rather nice touch, I feel ~
Bombs on the other hand, are basically based upon the character's signature spellcard.

All in all, Ten Desires certainly shows promise. The only gripe I have about it would be the inability to perform death bombs. As long as a Trance bar is filled, touching a bullet would be an inevitable death to your character.
